In an effort to get our bikes off the ground and utilize some awkward vertical space in our garage, I went on the hunt to re-purpose some IKEA parts to non-destructively mount our bikes.
During my search a majority of the bike rack guides I could find utilized IKEA STOLMEN parts. Unfortunately these are not available anymore so I needed to come up with another idea.
While perusing the IKEA website I came upon the IVARLI product line. Making a bike rack for two bikes was as easy as:
- 1x IVARLI Post 202.961.71 A$50
- 1x IVARLI Bracket 803.175.28 (36cm, sold in pairs) A$10
- 4x key rings to attach to the brackets
- Carabiners/Velcro to hold the bikes (4 @ A$10.18). Linked ones I chose from Bunnings were major overkill and same effect could be done for less
The setup is as easy as attaching the brackets to two spots appropriate for two bikes (likely utilizing the top hole for the top bike), and press fitting the IVARLI Post from floor to ceiling. I chose to not screw in the top or bottom of the post since I am renting and haven't had any issues in the 6 months it has been up. That being said, use this setup at your own risk.
